Bill: Reapportionment Bill
Details
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2365
Description[?]:
We propose that the national legislature be cut in size to create a leaner legislature, that will still be able to do the same job, but will cut down on unnecessary waste and expenditure. The inclusion of 750 legislators is archaic and unnecessary given that a small proportion of that figure would be capable of representing the population just as effectively and perhaps even more so, as it would remove many backbenchers who have little to offer in comparison to many of their colleaugues. Therefore for now we propose cutting the legislature by two thirds to 250, however we are open to other offers if a consensus can be reached. |

Message | Two things: 1) I think that 750 is too high a number, but think that 250 is a little bit too low. This puts the average per Nation at 50. I think an average of 60 or 65 would be more suitable. This would lead to a total Senate size of 300 or 325, respectively. 2) In the interest of making ties impossible, I suggest making the total number of Senate seats a prime number. Perhaps the nearest prime number to the suggested number of seats; 241 or 251 for a suggestion of 250, 293 or 307 for a suggestion of 300, or 317 or 331 for a suggestion of 325. Message | We could work with c.325, and would happily look at 317, although 325 in itself would prevent ties. |

Message | OOC: But 325 is not PRIME! IC: We would happily endorse a Senate size of either 307 or 317. Andrew Sutherland Secretary of Internal Affairs, Orange Liberty Party |

Message | I would propose as high as 500(to be the max) and I suggest that we keep the number even. If everyone agrees with 325 then i'd vote for it... |

Message | Didn't the BPP change it to 750 in the first place? Why even numbers, what advantage does that have? |

Message | 325 would be marginally acceptable. If the consensus were to move to a Senate of 325, we would accept. Andrew Sutherland Secretary of Internal Affairs, Orange Liberty Party |

Message | Yea I did, but I do recognize now that it needs to be smaller. And i take back the even numbers idea, odds will prevent ties and would be better. And I was agreeing with your 325 proposal also. |
