Bill: Axis Mundi Revolution Agenda - Safe Streets
Details
Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2366
Description[?]:
We live in tense times. It is tempting to allow the spiral of paranoia and nervous energy to dictate all policy, to feed upon our own demons. On the other hand - perhaps it is best to take stock. To examine our fears and make some rational decisions. 1) Why do we need the military patrolling our citizens? Let us remove them from this sphere, and let them operate where they need to be. 2) Why do we need a lethal populace? Let us limit the need and occassion of weaponry, and perhaps limit the occassion of violence? 3) Why do we need an armed populace? Let us try to focus on peaceful means. A spiral of disarmament. |

Message | Again - the Axis Mundi Revolution finds support in the most unexpected of places. Perhaps we are detecting a sea-change in the internal politics of the Independent Thought Party? |

Message | Articles 1 and 3 appear to be mutually exclusive, but we would oppose either as an assult on the personal liberties of our citizens. An armed society is a polite society. |

Message | For Article 1, you might have considered "unless professionally required" if the desire was to ban handguns among the public. Are the military and police supposed to operate without guns? "If you want peace, prepare for war." We would be willing to back Article 3, if someone can come up with areas where legal weapons need to be restricted beyond those where the property owner would do so. |

Message | For Article 1, regarding the military, the state would own the weapons, not the individual.... |

Message | The article text and the articles are not in order... The first part of language corresponds to article 2, the second part of langauge corresponds to article 1. The third language corresponds correctly. (OOC: I typed the text, then added the articles in that order... of course, the articles are ordered in some other way, I assume, when added... d'oh). There is a difference between weapons and firearms, if that is what is confusing people - all firearms are being condemned here, but not necessarily all (other) weapons. Regarding the police thing - the intention is to remove lethal force from the police repertoire, also. Let them use water cannon and other non-lethal weapons. In response to the statment by the AM RLP that "An armed society is a polite society", unfortunately, there is no real evidence to support the claim. (OOC: Indeed, having lived in both spectra, the 'unarmed' society was the more polite, in my RL experience). |

Message | OOC: "Please sir, may I shoot you?" "Yes, of course" "Bang" ???? We support. |
