MessageWe can see the benefits of subsidies are certain times. For instance, certain crops that are particularly needed by the nation could be subsidized to increase production.

MessageThe TCP does not believe in any subsidies or government handouts, and as the SD has explained, they are a gross infringement on the free market. Unfortunately the TCP cannot support this bill.

MessagePerhaps there are times where subsidies are good, but not in agriculture.

MessageSubsidies do abmormally affect the free market, but even so, they do a lot of good and can allow the government to place particular emphasis or relief on certain industries. Is it really that important to follow the book of free market economics to the letter? Sometimes exceptions are good. In fact, something so absolute as to never allow exceptions is impractical. It is impractical because the abolishment of exceptions implies that the system is perfect, and nothing is perfect.

MessageThis is a very good point raised by the PM, however we have seen cases where the distribution of subsidies was very bad - the big landowners get huge amounts of funds while on the other side the small farmers are left with smaller shares. We propose a following change to the bill:

- there is a cap on the amount of subsidy that one economic subject can secure
- we will stop subsidising immediately if the farmers begin to overproduce and we are dealing with surplus
- we will encourage agricultural subsidies to those who grow "green" crops - without pesticides
- we will encourage agricultural subsidies for new cultures that do not exist on the market yet

If these changes are incorporated into the bill we see nothing wrong with it. Indeed we must apologise for our harshness stating that subsidies are bad. We hope that we can come to this compromise.

MessageThe ALSP agree to the latest arguments of the SD party although we would oppose a static cap on the subsides.
Also a total removal of subsidising at the moment of overproduction is a bit to harsh.
We would suggest that we should have a dynamic policy regarding farming where the subsidy level/taxation level is regulated slowly in the direction we want the farming industry to take.
Meaning that if we have a increasing food production we'll slowly reduce the subsidies allowing the farmers to relocate/change production methods to more demanded products.
Also we belive that if the production is to high we should stop the growth completely but not try to reduce the production.
We should rather try to encourage population growth an in that way increase the demand for food within the country.
When the population level and the food production level seems to reach a balance we could discourage population growth again and try to keep the balance.
We might revise this view at a later stage.
