Bill: Grand Council Improvement Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Party of Moderates

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2377

Description[?]:

The purpose of this act is exactly what the bill says it is. The purpose is to improve the Grand Council by adding more seats, decreasing the amount of time between elections, and some other possible proposals. We hope that this act will help to better the Grand Council by making it more accountable. Also, this bill has been created to raise the current retirement age. The current one is at an moronic 57. That doesn't allow for people who are experienced to be within the Grand Council and Executive Branch.

MessageWe see problems with this bill in two ways - first one is OOC: we must be aware that this is a game where one must be always present to partake in discussions and that can be difficult. I have seen examples where more than half of the parties did not to show up to vote for the coalition because they were away. We suggest that the term is longer so that we can also debate longer - in our opinion, debate is the core of the game. Perhaps we could agree to have the mandate lasting one real life week so we can easily adapt our working lives for the elections?

The second one is the legal retirement age - we cannot force people to be employed until the age of 70. Many people are getting really old at that time, and we see no benefit to force the entire population to be working that long. We propose that this is reduced to 60. And as far as we understand our legislation, this is not strict - if one wishes to continue to work, he or she has every right to do so.

MessageHm, you do make a good point. As for article 2, we shall remove on the grounds that it would make the game far too inconvenient for real life. As for article 3, we apparently misread what we were proposing. Since that was in the administrative section, we somehow assumed that it only applied to public officials, and we also misread it to think that it dealt with what time public officials were forced to retire. We apologize for this embarrassment. We agree with the SD's assessment and shall make those changes.

MessageWe'd suggest 65 as the retirement age, but have no problems with raising it to 60 in and of itself. We also support the first article, as smaller constituencies can often translate into each individual voter having a larger say in the political system.

MessageWell, let's leave greater raises of the retirement age for later. I think everyone will be happy with this bill for now.
