Bill: Term Length Readjustment Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Catholic Workers Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2383
Description[?]:
To shorten the lengths of our terms in order to encourage political responsibility in government. OOC: The four year terms we passed a few weeks ago have been extremely hard to swallow, since elections come so rarely. Since we have an active gang of parties now, I thought we might have a lot more fun if our terms were much shorter. More elections means more excitement and energy, and should keep Telamon extremely active while other nations collapse. I know two years seems radical, but I think we should try it out for a while and see how it works out. However, I don't want the right-wing parties to think I'm trying to shorten their time in the majority (it will be short, I promise : P). Just say the word and I won't propose this bill until after this term ends, so you have a full four year term to enact right-wing policy. I wanted to propose it now so we could discuss this. |

Message | Even three years seems like a long time to wait. Elections are the best part of this game, why not have as many as possible (at least for a while, let's see what it's like). |

Message | I actually support this, but appreciate the courtesy of the IADP in waiting until we've had a full four year term to do what we will with Telamon. |

Message | I also support this. Have shorter terms make the government to act quickly to change and get policies done as soon as possible, Not waiting around to get things done. I also appreciate IADP on waiting until this term is done to prepose this act. So we may live in our majority. May is last long. |

Message | How convenient that you have had this change of mind. The Imperialist Party supports a strong executive able to have long terms in office. This gives the voters a real record to vote on, and enables the government to have a few years in which to be free of the ever-present concerns of an election. |

Message | "How convenient that you have had this change of mind. The Imperialist Party supports a strong executive able to have long terms in office." I don't know if that's supposed to be a veiled insult or diss because we've fallen out of the majority by a hair for the first time in three decades, but you might want to note that the strong executive whose power would be strengthened supposedly by longer terms is still a member of the Macon Progressive Coalition. The MPC and Telamon's left has not lost its knack for electing Presidents (in the last one hundred years, MPC parties have held the presidency approximately 25 out of the 35 terms). |

Message | We've had the presidency since 2346. We've held a majority in congress for pretty much that long too. Damn you counter-revolutionaries!! |

Message | Hopefully this will get the necessary support. It will just make the game so much funner. |

Message | The forces of historic inevitability are on our side. We will bury you next election! |
