Message | We cannot declare protestantism a state religion considering almost half of the population belongs to the Catholic Church. I oppose the state religion as I myself am a Catholic. I, and the Party, hope to once again make religion free in Dundorf. |

Message | Please remember that membership is totally voluntary and other religions are still allowed. The current National Church is Protestant because Dundorf's ancestors, the Duntrekkers, adhered to that faith. Although, we expected a proposal like this one, the VBD is suprised by the mild nature of it. The stalinist KED fighting for free religion ? A partyleader coming out as a Catholic ? Wasn't religion "the opium of the people" ? May be it's still the Deltarian influence within the KED. |

Message | Religion is the opium of the people. The thing is that some people like the opium and continue to be addicted by it. We represent the people, so even though we hate the opium, we unwillingly swallow it whole for the people. Besides, Dundorf is and must continue to be a secular state. Having a state religion means that religion influences state policies. We don't want to lynch people just because they lie or commit adultery. I myself am a Protestant. (though not a devout one) On the other hand, having a state religion, although not mandatory, makes it seems that the state is biased towards one religion. Hey, we're secular communists but religious freedom is a civil right nonetheless. |

Message | The KED had shifted toward a pro-religion stance a while ago. OOC: The reason I decided on Catholicism is because I am Catholic in real life. |

Message | Also I hope you realize that they are called Duntrkkers because they left Dundorf because of Catholic rule. Check the wiki. |

Message | ...many but not all left the nation... |

Message | The Duntrekkers were alredy a minority. Having a large number of them leave the country makes an even smaller minority. |

Message | That was ages ago....they are a fertile specimen. Besides, many might have returned. The DDR enforces (at least in the past) an open border policy to "foreigners", as you might know. |
Date | 00:53:22, April 05, 2007 CET | From | Kommunistische Einheitspartei Dundorf | To | Debating the Freedom of Religion |
Message | But religion has been repressed in the DDR for years. They would have no reason to comeback. And like you said, that was ages ago. Generations. Why would people born in other countries come back? The original Duntrkkers are dead. |
