Voting deadline: April 2387
Description[?]:
I am reintroducing this bill for your consideration, in light of the recent shift in public support towards parties in support of this kind of legislation. In peacetime, while some form of national service may be good for the nation, I can see that not everybody agrees with such a policy. However, in times of war, does it not make sense to enable the government to initiate a draft? Even those drafted - in a time of dire need for the nation - while they might not like to serve themselves, would not prefer the alternative: military defeat and subjugation. Furthermore, this act plays an even more important role. Without national service, the working class principally is that which serves in our military. Middle class voters can ignore the costs - at least the costs in blood - of war because they don't generally fight in them. Military service is vital to our bridging the class divide inherent in the military. |
