Bill: IP Demographic Power Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2387
Description[?]:
This act seeks to change state policy in order to encourage larger families and greater population growth. A larger population base will enable Telamon to do much more good in the future, and to exert a great deal more muscle abroad. Additionally, welfare policy should be based not just on numbers, but also upon need. Large families have much larger needs that, if not met, we will pay for in the form of crime, of an uneducated populace and so on. Thus, I urge support for this act from both sides of the aisle. |

Message | While we need to keep our population up, this bill threatens to turn the country into another China. It would also empower socially oppressive religious groups that seek to end birth control. |

Message | IF you REALLY cared about the poor, you would consider the fact that somebody with 10 kids has a much harder time getting by than somebody with none. Under the status quo large, middle class families may be worse off than poor large families. |

Message | I'm not so sure about that. The second article seems to suggest that subsidies, etc. would be used to encourage larger families, and since we presently provide free contraceptives in public toilets I don't think there's any danger of ending birth control. On the whole we support a larger Commonwealth, as it will lead to future prosperity and protect our social safety net, especially for seniors. We will support this effort. |

Message | I don't think that a larger population nessecarily means a stronger nation, it could lead to overcrowding and inflation |

Random fact: Parties have the ability to endorse another party's candidate for the Head of State election (if there is one). This adds a strategic element to the elections. |
