Bill: Industrial Hemp Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Democratic Liberal Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2088

Description[?]:

This bill aims to clarify the government's position on industrial hemp. Whilst we believe that industrial hemp should be legal, we suggest initially that only regulated agribusinesses may produce it.

Our initial reasoning for this is simply so that the government can oversee production to ensure quality for the consumer, which we feel is preferable to no regulation whatsoever. Thoughts please?

MessageThat's true Blobs.

Hemp has many benefits and I think its important that we allow it. There is also the possiblility of creating more jobs for Hobrazia's proletariat through this industry.

MessageI'm against the regulation of a potentially valuable crop such as hemp. This could help our farming industry.

MessageThere is nothing wrong with regulation, the only danger would be if the limitations were to heavy. Without regulation there is always a danger of all farm land being turned over this resource as hemp is a very good, cost effective product (though we admit this is unlikely).

Good point,if everybody starts growing hemp then we are in a bit of trouble. How do decide who grows hemp and will they recieve subsidies if the crop fails?

MessageAs only a limited number of agribusinesses would be producing the product, there would be no requirement for subsidy as there would be less competition allowing them to keep and maintain higher profit yields from their produce. Subsidies should only be provided to those industries that are required for the public good, and if they are so then they should be under government control.

MessageI posted a message this morning which doesn't appear to have gone through, outlining the necessity for at least limited regulation. Since then the WSS has mentioned and expanded on that point, for which we are grateful!
