Bill: IP Media Regulatory Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2391

Description[?]:

The present practice of government-subsidized independent stations is expensive and inefficient. We should cut out the middleman, and just have the state run television statements. State-run television will ensure a number of things:

Firstly, even if TV stations don't have profit motives, they will still have ideological and other motives. Only a state-run enterprise - operated at an arms length from the government - can provide value-free news coverage (private for-profit news will be driven by advertisers).

Secondly, it will ensure the provision of public goods through television. We can improve education, promote high culture, and regulate violence sexism and misogyny on the air - engineering better citizens. It is the government that represents the people, and so surely the state is the best entity to ensure that television is run in order to maximize social returns, not private returns.

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.

Random quote: "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, okay? It's, like, incredible." - Donald Trump
