Bill: Wild Animals as Pets reform
Details
Submitted by[?]: Bündnis 89 / Die Faulenzer
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2395
Description[?]:
Certain animals deserve the right to live free in the wild. Others, throughout history, have been domesticated by citizens of this Republic. The government has the responsibility to determine which animals would be too dangerous to keep as pets, and to protect their rights to live in the wild. At the same time, the government should respect pet ownership rights. This bill is a compromise: It protects both animal rights and pet ownership rights. Be it resolved that the Volkskammer change its wild animal policy to bring it in line with endangered and exotic animal policies. Most wild animals will be left in the wild, protected by the federal government. The government will create a list of animals, should private citizens wish to keep wild animals on their property, which will be allowed to live as pets. |

Message | Wild animals as pets pose a danger to their owners and communities where they might be kept as pets. It is also unfair to the animals to take them out of their natural habitats to live in a residential area. Owners of wild animals may also not be well-informed as to how to care for wild animals. 1) Let wild animals live in their natural environment 2) In some instances, allow wild animals to live in zoos where their natural surroundings can be recreated and the care they require can be provided by veterinarians and other zoological professionals 3) Forbid common citizens from owning wild animals for the reasons mentioned above |

Message | Again we are opposed to this piece of legislation because the VBD finds this in contrast with our cultural inheritance. What about breaking wild horses or taming wild cats and dogs. Are you forbidding that as well ? Unmentionable ! |

Message | At that point, those animals are domesticated and are available for residents to keep as pets. But I would hope that nobody would want to keep a tiger or wolf in a residential neighborhood. Protect the rights of animals to roam free in their natural environment. |
