Bill: PWP Free Love Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2401
Description[?]:
Present laws against prostitution are hypocritical, unenforceable, and bad for women. Firstly, I ask why it is illegal to have sex with somebody for money, but not illegal say, to marry somebody because they are rich. Prostitution laws are really targeted at a particular class of people, not at the population as a whole. Secondly, these laws are almost impossible to enforce, and require putting police officers in harm's way thorugh entrapment stings. The thing is that prostitutes can get around the law by avoiding explicit statements that they are being paid to have sex. Thirdly, these laws are bad for Telamon. They place vulnerable women in a world where they cannot turn for legal protection (because they are criminals), or demand workplace safety (because their profession is illegal) - and instead become the virtual slaves of pimps. Let us reorient our approach to prostitution, from prostitution as "vice" towards policies aimed at helping women. |
