| This bill would allow public employees to strike so long as critical professions (such as the military, police, NHS staff) maintain a level of service which does not endanger the public. Any strike may be called off in a state of emergency. In return for the right to strike, unions have the responsibility to: 1) Give at least 10 days notice before a strike, or face fines 2) Ensure that A&E wards are always fully staffed 3) Make sure that the police, fire and ambulance services are sufficiently staffed and equipped to respond to emergency calls, even if this means diverting personnel from elsewhere. |
