Bill: Immigration Act 2088

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Imperialist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2089

Description[?]:

Noticing that under current law, anyone regardless of their intentions regarding the nation, use to the nation, or reason for entry is allowed to enter the nation. Although immigration is doubltessly important to the future of our nation, and we are not in any way proposing that we restrict ASYLUM, it seems ludicrous that any number of people from any nation in the world can freely enter the nation and live here without any legal limits in place. Therefore we propose that a system be implemented that allows workers needed by our nation and thier families to enter, but allows the government to control the rate of immigration, and prevent people who are not beneficial to the nation(such as terrorist suspects, criminals in other nations, etc) from entering.

MessageFor. Whilst we should allow refugees and persecuted people in to the country, we should only allow as many as the economy can support, and those allowed in should be those who can help the country as well as be protected

Excuse me, but where in "Everyone is allowed to reside permanently in this nation." does it say anything about benefits? And terrorists will be imprisoned. Do you really suggest we treat all foreigners as criminals because SOME might be terrorists?

MessageNo, Im suggesting that we only let in people who will actually work and help the country rather than just sitting here. And obviously if someone is injured in our nation we'll give them healthcare no matter what, so why should people who wont work be allowed into the nation so that they can use services they havent contributed to? We arent against immigration - we're against useless and harmful immigration. Our proposal allows the former to continue whilst filtering out the later - ie the useless and harmful immigration. It also allows us to close our borders if supples run short, which we cant do with current legislation.

MessageAnd if it's a worldwide drought? Or if we cant afford to? Or if the world market dries up? Nations do run short of resources, you know.

MessageA worldwide drought is virtually impossible scientifically speaking. Or something should go terribly wrong, like a chemical or nuclear war...

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play".

Random quote: "The people who vote decide nothing. The people who count the vote decide everything." - Joseph Stalin
