Bill: Freedom from the Big Brother Landlord.
Details
Submitted by[?]: Adam Smith Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2092
Description[?]:
The state currently provides minimum standard housing for those on low income. What it does not do is allow these peoople to become home owners. It ties them to the perpetual waste of paying rent, never allowing their hardwork and sacrifice to result in the accumulation of patrimony which would lift them ot of their state enforced poverty. It is proposed that all residents in state owned housing are offered the right to buy these properties at cost value of the land and the building work less any depreciation due to lack of maintenance by the state. The government is not prevented by this law from building and selling houses at cost. The government may not sell at below cost as this would be dishonest use of taxation. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government policy regarding housing.
Old value:: The state provides public housing to low-income families.
Current: The state contracts with private companies to provide public housing.
Proposed: All housing is privately-owned.

Message | the bill description does not mathc the proposal. nothing in the current law prevents the state from selling low-income housing to its residents. if the intent is to privatize all housing, then the bill should say so. |

Message | We would rather have the state charging subsidized, affordable, income-tied rent than the private sector charging extortionately high rates. |

Message | Yes the intent is to transfer housing into private hands, GA. The government may continue to build houses, but for sale rather than for rent. CNT, why would you want to condemn people to perpetual enslavement to the government in order to have a roof over their heads. When a worker labours and takes part of their earnings from this labour to pay for housing, is it not better that this payment results in some accumulation of patrimony for them in later life. The only reason to refuse to allow them to buy the property is to keep them in financial shackles throughout retirement and to deny their children and grandchildren the opportunity of starting in a better financial situation. |

Message | Please alert me to the place it states the state charges rent, and the place where it states the workers cannot buy their housing from the state. |

Message | If the workers buy their housing it is no longer state provided but private. That is exactly what is proposed. As to the state charging rent, can we draw your attention to your own recognition of this fact:"We would rather have the state charging subsidized, affordable, income-tied rent" (Stated in this house by the CNT/AFL on 3rd August 2005 at 18:02:29 CET) Nowhere in the law does it specify anything about rent, which leaves the government free to charge rent if it so wishes, and apparently, on your comments, it does so wish. |

Message | Selling the property makes it private. What is there about that you don't understand. The law says that the government provides - this does not allow it to sell, if it did sell it would not be providing, the housing would be privately owned. |

Message | So the socialists want to keep the people enslaved to the government. Why is that not a suprise? |
