MessageThe purpose of requiring a license to sell liquor is to ensure we can enforce our alcohol regulations. If any business can sell alcohol it becomes exponentially more difficult to ensure local and national laws are adhered to, as we not only increase the number of businesses to regulate, but also remove the ability to prevent the abuse by unscrupulous businesses. A license is not sufficient a burden on businesses to warrant this kind of consideration.

MessageNew businesses should not have to invest in a license nor should a shop which wishes to sell the occasional or a single brand of drink be forced to invest in this license. Many restaurants choose to forgo a license since their sales do not justify the cost. If we lower the cost we are mearly headed in this direction, thus we jumped to the outcome this path leads to.
Regulation of the sale of alcohol is unnecessary at the current level.

MessageA license is hardly a investment, and how expensive, exactly is this license when compared to other costs incurred by restaurants. We would love to see the PP back up their assertions that cost is preventing restaurants from getting a license with some physical data.

MessageRegardless of whether or not it prevents restaurants getting licensed, the cost of this bureaucracy is ultimately borne by the taxpayer or the consumer. We have yet to be convinced that there is a need for licensing. So long as alcohol producers comply with the relevent food standards, this should be sufficient.

MessageUnfortunately we do not have hard facts on these figures rather the experience of working with people in the restaurant business. No study has been done on this matter that we know of. We are working from those owners who have spoken to us on this matter and from our own personal experience.

MessageWe're in favor of selling alcohol anywhere to "anyone" -- defined as 18+. Don't high school seniors have the right to get drunk at graduation? If you can vote, then you ought to be able to drink. In fact, if you do vote, then you should be required to have two drinks before casting your ballot.
