Bill: Lower Enlistment Age

Details

Submitted by[?]: Neo-Stratocracy Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2090

Description[?]:

As of now the joining age for the military is 18 years of age. Seeing as though people are considered to be adults at 16 we propose that we lower the enlistment age to 16 to allow those who want to join to do so. We also suggest that there be a split-option enlistment for highschool students. In this enlistment you must have parental approval but between your junior-senior year of schooling you will attend basic training and then when you graduate you will be assigned to your unit and continue in training.

MessageThis would be an unlikely situation as currently full-time education does not end until the age of 18.

MessageThen why not have the adult age be 18. If you are considered an adult at 16 you should be able to enlist into the military at the age of 16.

MessageThe adult age was set at 16 very early in Hobrazias history (the bill was put to vote in March 2036). The age was set as such so that all those at age 16+ could vote in general elections, as at present we have no ability to set the age of suffrage differently to the adult age. They can still join the services, should they wish, at age 18 when they finish full time education.

MessageIt's assumed as they cannot join beforehand (they're in full-time education), however I guess it could be placed at any age after that...

MessageI should have presumed that one, sorry about that pointless post. I see no problem whatsoever with the current age requirements then.

MessageThe potential for underhand military recruitment tactics is too great to lower the recruitment age to 16. The existing practicality issues of this have already been mentioned by the WSS. We will oppose this bill when ti is put to vote.

MessageIf they choose military over education, then I don't see a problem. We need a source of recruits. I will support.

MessageAgain, the legal adult age of 16 and the mandatory age of 18 that is required to remain in school poses problems. I still believe 16 should be the school age limit.

MessageThe source of recruits will not dry up in the two years it takes to complete their education.
We also see no problems with the mandatory school age being 18 and the adult age being 16 and, as yet, have seen no arguments that would change our perspective.

MessageWe oppose, as pointed out - this could leave the door open for sly recruitment tactics. Besides...we in the silly clothes think that sending people off to war so young could be a tad damaging.

MessageUnder 18? That could be emotionally damaging at such a young age. 18 is even a little young... I also think that soldiers should at least get I high school education... I will not support this.

MessageThen why is the adult age set at 16! If you can pay taxes and vote at 16 you should be able to enlist if you want to. You all forget one thing ITS A CHOICE TO ENLIST!
