Message | If we are attacked by Nuclear and Biological weapons we must have the option for a quick response. Even saying we will use them is a deterant for people to think of attacking us, saying we wont opens the doors to aggressive nations. |

Message | Erm...the proposal will allow us to reciprocate after our nation has been attacked by nuclear weapons. |

Message | You can't legislate this kind of a policy. When you do, you limit our ability to deal with unforseen events (what if an asteroid is going to hit?), and send the message that our resolve is weak. Furthermore, there is the issue of our second-strike capability - if another country has arms superiority, they can wipe us out before we can even respond. Thus, it may be useful to preemptively nuke them if we have intelligence suggesting an attack is highly likely or imminent. Better them than us. |
