Message | We would support article 1 and 2 but not article 3. IF article 3 is NOT suspended from the bill, we will oppose this legislation. Our party is FOR a partially or complete privatization of the media but NOT if it is placed outside the regulations of sexually explicit content. Our party vice-president and soon to be mother again reminds the parliament again to "Will somebody please think of the children!" Thank you. |

Message | "I would like to clarify why EASL must oppose this change. I led the fight two years ago to end for-profit media outlets. It was my belief then, and it continues to to be my belief today, that the commercialization of public airwaves is not in the best interest of the people of Rildanor. The control of any media channel by forces from the for-profit sector runs contrary to the goal of quality programming, and invites the degradation of journalism by commercialization. In place of concious-driven journalism and entertainment, the people of Rildanor are fed programming used to sell products and to encourage greed and inactivity. I must reiterate, therefore, the fundamental principle of EASL on capitalism: 'We strongly deny the right to make a profit at the expense of the public welfare. We envision a Rildanor built and maintained through cooperation, not corporatism.' EASL speaks here as the representative of the people of Rildanor by right of its electoral victory in 2413. If the people favor partial deregulation, they will vote against EASL in the next election. This is their right. However, while EASL holds the favor of the people, EASL must represent the common good, and so EASL will vote its conciousness on this matter. However, EASL does respect the UDL's commitment to maintaining some of the cooperatives." -Adrien Durand Prime Minister, Rildanor |
