MessageThe proposed alteration is an improvement to the law but less than ideal. "hate speech" is an entirely subjective term. Who is to say what is hateful and what is harmless? The government? If so then a law that censores government-defined "hate speech" is simply a tool to allow and justify discriminatory and unfair practices by the government.

We believe that the law should only prohibit verifiably false information, anything else is unfair, open to explitation and unscientific, and as a result we must vote against this bill.

MessageWe would also like to make clear that in the event of this bill being defeated, we would welcome, fully support and vote in favour of a bill that only prohibits the publication of false information, but we feel that there should be no compromise on this important issue.

MessageAfter giving this bill further consideration, we have decided to support this bill on the grounds that it represents an improvement to the current legislation. However, we will introduce a new bill at some point in the future to propose the removal of any reference to the highly subjective topic of "hate speech".
