Bill: Agrandissement de l'Assemblée Nationale
Details
Submitted by[?]: Front Nationaliste Royaliste
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2422
Description[?]:
The present number of seats in the National Assembly is quite ridiculous. Larger legislatures provide for more representation for the average citizen, rather than being grouped into a huge constituency with millions of other voters. This drowns out the voice of that voter and makes his voice appear to be less important. In a nation of over 121,000,000 people, having one representative for every 1,210,000 people is utterly ridiculous and completely undemocratic. It is quite ironic that this current mess was created by parties who advocate democracy and equality. Instead, they are promoting the drowning of the voices of common Rildanorians. OOC: The number I chose is coincidentally the number for the French National Assembly. :P |

Message | From an OOC point of view I'm opposed to all seat inflation, mostly because I spent a lot of time on the district map, and it's much easier to do one for a 100 seat legislature than a 577 seat. I also have a historic attachment to the 100 seat legislature, it being the original size of Rildanor's assembly when I joined the game. From an RP quality perspective it's nicer to have 100 seats as well, because then players can label where their representatives come from, etc. From a math perspective it's nicer because half is clearly 50+1, and two-thirds 66+1. I'll hear what the other parties have to say, but I must say I would not be supportive of this myself without a serious argument in favor. |

Message | OOC: We're only supposed to be using IC reasoning in our legislation, I think. |

Message | OOC: I wasn't aware of that, my bad. I do think something like this deserves OOC attention though, to be honest. That's why I'm sticking by my points. |

Message | "100 has a historical significance in Rildanor. The early legislature was at 100 seats and have continued to be so at different stages of Rildanorian history. We oppose." - Jean-Christophe Clermont, Duc de Moisdonne PA Party Leader |

Message | "EASL agrees with M. Clermont. Although the PA and EASL agree on very little, it is on this point that we find some common ground. For once EASL has a special attachment to upholding tradition. We will oppose." -Adrien Durand Premier, Rildanor |

Message | OOC: Sorry Will, on this I totally agree with your allies. Plus I like my own district map too much to make another one that will be ridiculous with 500+ seats. |
