Bill: Organ Donation Act of 2421
Details
Submitted by[?]: Partido Laborista Socialista
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2422
Description[?]:
In most cases, organ donation does not happen due to the person having been too lazy to fill out a form. Consent should be assumed unless otherwise stated. We will not force anyone to donate their organs, but they must make it clear that they do not want their organs donated rather than the other way round. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning organ donations.
Old value:: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Current: Organ donations are only legal with personal consent, next-of-kin may override personal consent.
Proposed: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.

Message | We would prefer to remain where consent must be specified, though reforms could be carried out to make this easier. |
Date | 23:53:11, June 29, 2007 CET | From | Partido Laborista Socialista | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | This hasn't really changed from the current system, where you can choose between having and not having your organs donated. The only difference now is that it takes no effort what-so-ever on the part of the people of Davostan to donate. |
Date | 00:07:13, June 30, 2007 CET | From | Partido social de Responsabilidad | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | We are split on this issue and on that basis we must abstain |
Date | 00:21:41, June 30, 2007 CET | From | Trabajo y Libertad | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | The problem with the proposed system is for those who ethically, religiously or squeamishly do not wish to donate their organs but are unaware of the requirement or method of withdrawing consent. |
Date | 00:24:22, June 30, 2007 CET | From | Partido Laborista Socialista | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | Then perhaps a high publicity campaign would be in order. We by no means wish to sneak this by anyone. Perhaps if we added a mention of such a campaign it would be acceptable? |
Date | 00:32:41, June 30, 2007 CET | From | Trabajo y Libertad | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | Preferably the law would stay as it is and the publicity campaign would work to encourage people to donate organs. |
Date | 01:20:38, June 30, 2007 CET | From | Partido Laborista Socialista | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | We fell that a publicity campaign encouraging people to donate won't target the people who need to be targeted. The people who say "Oh, I'll do it later". Unfortunately, they're dead later. We need to target these people with legislation, not a publicity campaign. |

Message | You make a good argument but we are still not entirely convinced this is the best path. Our current intention is to abstain from the vote. |
Date | 02:02:52, July 01, 2007 CET | From | Movimiento Cívico Justicialista | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | Government has no right over people´s body, whatever the case. |
Date | 11:56:02, July 01, 2007 CET | From | Trabajo y Libertad | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | Movimiento Cívico Justicialista makes a good point there, what right does government have to assume that our citizens will allow us to do this except where they specify otherwise? |
Date | 13:46:04, July 01, 2007 CET | From | Partido Laborista Socialista | To | Debating the Organ Donation Act of 2421 |
Message | First of all, your body is property, and as a social-anarchist party, the TyL should understand that no individual has the right to own property. Furthermore, as a dead person cannot own anything, the cannot have rights over their body. |
