Bill: Creation of the Telemon Extraplanetary Association
Details
Submitted by[?]: Theological Technocratic Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2092
Description[?]:
The development of the Telemon Extraplanetary Association, or TEA, is meant to be a first step into organizing and promoting the space-related interests of the Telemon Commonwealth community. The TEA would have two primary components. One, the more heavily-endorsed, would go to providing common resources and venture capital to private companies that wish to explore and develop the area immediately surrounding Earth and the Moon. (Companies like Burt Rutan's SpaceShipOne, for example.) These corporations would be regulated, but loosely--primarily to make sure that they are not gravely endangering the safety of Earthdwelling citizens. As it stands, someone could technically explode a nuclear device in midair and claim it as a failed rocket. The secondary component would be in charge of developing and launching longer-range, primarily unmanned missions. These missions would be fairly low-cost and primarily geared towards furthering general scientific knowledge. Examples of the sorts of missions TEA would run could include NASA's Mars rovers and Voyager crafts. |

Message | No, the government can easily have their own space exploration center, but it is no reason, to not allow others to do so as well. Regardless of which, if they do oversee or not, let them do as they see fit, until it affects the nation envriomentally or economically, or the sort. |

Message | I'd rather see only private companies in space. I dont see any reason for the government to be involved unless a company is endangering the public somehow. But that option isnt given so I vote no. |

Message | Yeah, given the choice I would probably opt to develop a program somewhere between the option here and the next-least-regulated one. I feel that some governmental exploration is needed, though, because the pure science it produces generally isn't commercially in enough demand to be sought in the free market. I understand your point of view, though. |

Message | i support government intervention in the name of currently uncommercial science. Need I point out the various inventions made by NASA that wouldn't have occurred in completely profit-driven companies? |
