Message | How is it NOT harmful? It's degrading and insulting. You honestly want to allow people to insult and taunt each other and at the same time call yourself the "Democracy Now" party? |

Message | Because something is degrading or insulting is not sufficient cause for judicial remediation: Where they are, the tyranny is speech codes soon follows, as such laws are transformed into bludgeons to beat those who have dissenting opinions. A mature society understands that defamatory opinions are part-and-parcel of media discourse. To that end, we applaud DN! for bringing forward needed reforms which benefit all who care about free speech and free expression. |

Message | We fail to see how this is some sort of intrusion on freedom of speech. If anything, this protects those who wish to speak their minds. The judicial consequences for insulting someone ensures that everyone has an opinion they are entitled to express without the fear of being insulted. The law has been in effect for quite some time and if you take a look at the HPI , you'll see that the citizens are pleased with it. You are free to express whatever you want to express, as long as it doesn't intrude on someone else in terms of insults. |
Date | 18:19:04, July 06, 2007 CET | From | Monarchist Party | To | Debating the Libel Reform Bill 2424 |
Message | "You are free to say what you want, so long as it is what we say you want." That is effectively what the People's Mujaheddin are saying, and that is tyranny of the most heinous sort. |
