Bill: The Last Thing We Need is More Politicians
Details
Submitted by[?]: Tuesday Is Coming
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2093
Description[?]:
Given that Lodamun is ruled by democratically elected parties, and that the power these parties wield relies more on percentage amounts than membership amounts, We propose that the size of the parliament be reduced by one third. This will allow for a reduction in the government's bureaucrat payroll, among other things. |

Old value:: 450
Current: 365

Message | An even number like 300 would make it easier for both us and game mechs... |

Message | I was thinking 300, then I figured that 299 means that 150 is a majority(51%), 200 is 67%... Im fine with either 300 or 299, but I thought that I should throw out 299 first, but go to 300 later if needed. |

Message | We will support any reduction in the cost of government, and the reduction in the number of MPs is a good start. |

Message | Among those who support this reduction, would you support 299 or 300? |

Message | Either. 300 makes constitutional calculations easy, 299 does not. If you want to make 51% clear and 2/3 clear as well, try 297 - 51% = 149, 2/3 = 198 |

Message | 299 makes the calculations easier...That is the point... 51%=150 2/3(67%)=200 For 300 51%=151 67%=201 |

Message | OK then. We would like to see a grassroots assembly of the maximum possible number of part-time politicians. This is just a healf-measure: why 300? What we really need is to end careerism among policians altogether and make parliament truly a house of the people. This is just tinkering, and the saving will be eaten up by the costs of a new electoral commission to draw new electoral boundaries, by challenges to the new boundaries and so on. |
