Message | Defense seems a tad high and head of government and finance a tad low. Perhaps increase the two? |
Date | 12:02:58, July 17, 2007 CET | From | Hebilon Mujahideen | To | Debating the Budget Proposal, 2430 |
Message | So you would cut back on police, prisons and defence so we can't deal with enemies at home or abroad? Apart from those cuts, we agree with this budget. |
Date | 13:07:18, July 17, 2007 CET | From | Union for Social Justice | To | Debating the Budget Proposal, 2430 |
Message | The police and prison system are funded through the ministry of internal affairs. For that reason I would like to see more money go there. Say 2./3 of the old budget. Cutting the funds of foreign affairs while the same party that made this budget proposal proposes to spend more on foreign aid seams strange, although I don't know how the budget of foreign affairs was spend before. Also the budget cut on defense is very large. We still need to defend our country. I think the spending on other things are about okee, also on head of government and finance, as that don't have many projects to spend it on. But maybe we copuld spend a little less on food and agriculture, I don't know why we need a lot there, and more on health and social services and education and culture. This budget fits into the income the state has right now, but couldn't we raise taxes on coorporations, income and luxury goods a little (say to 4% each) to give us more money to spend on important social and investment programs, without having to compromise national security. |

Message | Internal affairs seems a bit low too us, and we support the USJ in it's suggestion of raising taxes on coorporations. |
Date | 20:12:01, July 17, 2007 CET | From | Reform Party | To | Debating the Budget Proposal, 2430 |
Message | We can't support the massive cuts to internal affairs, justice, or defense. We can support some cuts to IA an defense, but this level is far too high. By the way, we don't particularly like the massive increase to agriculture and science. Is that really necessary? |
Date | 20:14:38, July 17, 2007 CET | From | Union for a Responsible Republic | To | Debating the Budget Proposal, 2430 |
Message | Foreign Affairs: Budget cut. The Foreign Office will be able to operate with reserves from the decades' long surpluses created under former budgets. Internal Affairs: This department is solely concerned with police funding. As the Republic does not maintain a national police force, there is no need for a large budget. Policing is a matter for local government, not the central government. Defense: There is no reason why the Republic needs such a large defense budget. We face no external threats and the existing military is made of professionals. The Defense Forces will still be more than able to preserve the sovereignty and integrity of the Republic. Justice: Justice concerns itself with the funding of the courts and prisons. So we do not have a large prison population there is no need to continue the current levels of spending in this area. Taxation: We are opposed to any tax increases at this time. |
Date | 20:27:54, July 17, 2007 CET | From | Reform Party | To | Debating the Budget Proposal, 2430 |
Message | Foreign Affairs: Due to international aid, we recommend on keeping it where it is. However, we can compromise. Internal Affairs: We do support a national police agency, fire department, etc. Therefore, we don't want any cuts to be greater than a fifth of the current budget. Furthermore, we need it in order to fund our spy agencies. A good spy agency never hurts regardless of the state of foreign affairs. As for the things that don't currently exist, we can put them into existence. We can compromise slightly on this. Defence: True, the Republic doesn't need the defense budget to be so huge. However, it never does hurt to have a strong military. We recommend that the defense budget be cut in only half. We can compromise slightly on this. Justice: Prisons must be well funded in order to maximize the potency of rehabilitation attempts. Regardless of prisoner levels, this is an important part of the budget. We cannot compromise on Justice. Infrastructure: We support a massive increase, even higher than the proposed, to this area in order to ensure good transportation and communication levels within the Republic. We will find it difficult to compromise and a level lower than the proposed. Health and Social Services: While we prefer a corporate and prevention based healthcare system, we can easily compromise on the budget of this area. Education and Culture: This is another area of massive importance. We support a budget higher than the one proposed. The ability to compromise is difficult below the proposed. Science and Technology: We are uncaring to this area of the budget, but we would prefer the budget of this sector to go to other areas. Food and Agriculture: We dislike government intervention in the agricultural industry, but we can easily compromise. Environment and Tourism: We support the level proposed. Compromise is easily possible if necessary. Trade and Industry: Same as EaT. |

Message | We believe intelligence/spying agencies would be funded out of the Foreign and Defense budgets, not from Internal Affairs. The URR will begin the process of evaluating the suggestions brought up here to redraft a new budget. |
