Bill: ID Act 2431

Details

Submitted by[?]: Christian Democratic Alternative

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2432

Description[?]:

When I read last week's I was astonished to read a story about an elderly sex offender who was released after he claimed that he was Santa Claus and that children would have nightmares if he wasn't released. The man had repeatedly refused to answer questions from the police concerning his identity, which couldn't be confirmed by the police because he was dressed up like Santa Claus. The CDA believes it's prudent to introduce compulsary ID cards to prevent such tragedies in the future. Of course the police will be subjected to guidelines concerning their use".

- Charles Henry de Berlaymont, CDA leader in Parliament.

MessageNo! Not with our support will Hutori become a surveillance state. What is the value of identity cards? Identity cards are the first step into the direction of a cold and senseless surveillance state, a state of gray mirrors. Human identity doesn't need a piece of paper to be confirmed. I give everybody warning of devaluing identity and of devaluing the self-evident right of innocent citizens to privacy within their identity. Our police has other means to find out the names of obviously crazy criminals. This is a question of principle, whether we appreciate identity as human implicitness and right based on human dignity or give the state the right to grant identity and personality...

Message"Many people issue false names in order to avoid arrest. What other means, but paper, does the police have at their disposal to distinguish the riff-raff from law-abiding citizens? Citizens in Terran nations that do issue ID cards say that they feel a lot safer and many (law-abiding) citizens report that they rarely have to show them."

- Harrison Russell, CDA shadow Minister of Internal Affairs.

Random quote: "A return to first principles in a republic is sometimes caused by the simple virtues of one man. His good example has such an influence that the good men strive to imitate him, and the wicked are ashamed to lead a life so contrary to his example." - Niccolo Machiavelli
