MessageNo. This is not true. The brain stops developing at age 12. You learn over your whole life but that is all learning. We oppose.

MessageStudies have proven this in the real world. Ever think about why they approve drugs for adults for all people 12 and up? The brain advances in actual overall development past this point. A person who is twelve and a person who is thirty who know the same things equally are technically equal in brain development. Basic things after that are learned and you learn over your whole life. We think that basic ideas can be taught up to 16 and this is a good age for adulthood. It is generally younger than that (moving on to the real world a sec) in most ancient cultures, it is only with recent times in modernized cultures that we have prolonged adolescence. We feel this is unhealthy and should slowly be reversed, but we cannot do it all at once so we feel slowly lowering the adulthood age to retune to the natural environment is a good idea. That is why we lowered it by two years, since it is a good even number.

MessageII believes adulthood can't be judged by brain development only.

MessageYeah, and what do you think we should base it on?

MessageIt's pretty complex, here's the general idea:

Adulthood/maturing is a long process of transition which varies considerably in terms of its beginning and end from person to person, therefore adulthood does not just happen at a single age. It's a chain of physical and social maturing in the culture one grew up in. Modern culture stresses the importance of social and rational skills, responsibility and independence. II believes people should be encouraged to view themselves not as self-sufficient individuals, as but collective persons who at different stages in a shared life cycle assume pre-ordained rights, responsibilities and duties. We consider 18 the right age for a new stage after taking prementioned factors into account.
