Bill: Education Act: Charter Schools

Details

Submitted by[?]: We Say So! Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2438

Description[?]:

Accepting the work that Charter Schools are able to provide in deprived areas, whilst also accepting that the operation of these schools is by private enterprise utilising Government funds, the Government will revoke the funding of these schools from the Government sphere and will require that these schools are operated by non-profit organisations.
This modification will assist national school funding in two ways:
- Charter schools will operate like all privately operated institutions without direct government subsidy or assistance thusly not providing them with an unfair advantage compared to other private institutions, whilst allowing those non-profit organisations to increase investment in those schools.
- The removal of funding from private schools will allow that money to be transferred to the State school network, increasing available funds to the State sector to improve education for all rather than the minority.

There is also the advantage of expanding the allowance of education Charter Schools are allowed to provide, rather than the current limitations imposed on them, allowing these non-profit organisations to compete against current private schools.
For those Charter schools currently receiving State funding, they will have a grace period of no longer than 2 years from the passing of this bill in order to allow the non-profit organisations to take control/be set-up. They will continue, like all schools in this Nation, to follow the education guidelines as specified by the National Curriculum.

MessageAfter reviewing this bill, we have decided to vote against it. While 'leveling out the playing field' is nice, the fact is that the minority need these government-funded charter schools. You say the state schools will provide better education for 'all', but that's not a guarantee. These charter schools guarantee that the minority do get the education they need, and we can't let them get swept out of sight in the school system.

MessageWhilst we have no wish to see the loss of these schools, we must question why the government is required to subsidise these same schools. We do not subsidise private businesses, so why should these be any different?
We would also point out that by improving education for all is via the spending of government funds in state schools whilst allowing these schools to continue operation as non-profit organisations. This improves education for all as it increases the amount of money spent in all areas of education, not merely those who go to either a state or state funded private institution (which is an oxymoron in and of itself. If it is state funded, should it not be part of the state system not operated by a private group?)

MessageIt's the area that the state schools miss and the charter schools go to that needs the most funding. The fundamental part is that the needy get the education they deserve. Wordy technicalities don't change anything. Before we look out for the common citizen, we need to look out for the needy citizen. The charter schools work well, and we don't need to change it.

Random quote: "Public schools are government-established, politician- and bureaucrat-controlled, fully politicized, taxpayer-supported, authoritarian socialist institutions. In fact, the public-school system is one of the purest examples of socialism existing in America." - Thomas L. Johnson
