Voting deadline: September 2439
Description[?]:
This act will make it easier for minorities to earn government jobs. Let's just say that Person A is the average citizen, and let's just say that Person B is an underprivileged minority. Now let's simply give them a value of how easy their life is and how much of a chance they have of getting a certain job. Remember that this is just an example to demonstrate the idea, and not intended to show exactly how the system will work. So Person A has the numerical value 70, and let's say Person B has a value of 58. This is where the system will come in. Let's say the government raises Person B's chance by 10. Or 12 if they wish, or 8, or 6, or any number they wish up to a limit. Remember that this is a vastly simplified version of how it will work, but that is the core idea. Local governments will change the amount of help they would give the underprivileged minorities when they need to, raising it or lowering it. If the minorities really need the help, the number will be high, and if they don't need that much help, it's lower. The enhanced ability for these underprivileged minorities to get government jobs will help them out, in the end making then not underprivileged, which would bring the level of help the local governments would need to set down, eventually to minuscule levels. |

Message | We cannot accept this. Whilst we understand the theory behind the ideas our right honourable colleagues are attempting to introduce, and we congratulate them in their attempts to improve the lot of minorities, we feel it is our position to point out the one major flaw with their idea. Currently there is no requirement for any national to register as a "race". This is simply because this Nation does not separate one group from another. Be they black or white, Deltarian or Zargundian, Hobaist or Christian, this Country does not discriminate against any and introducing registration along the lines of race will only increase separation of one group from another. Moreover, currently no form of positive discrimination is allowed in this Country. Further to this, no form of discrimination, positive or negative, is allowed in this Country. To quote the Employees Charter: Basic Rights At Work, passed August 2055: "the right not to be discriminated against on grounds of sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief." What introducing regulated hiring policies does is introduce discrimination by making certain employers employ staff by "ticking boxes" rather than hiring the best person for the job. Whilst we understand the position of our right honourable colleagues, we feel that introducing systematic discrimination through hiring policies enforced by government, either national or local, does more harm to integration and hiring then it does good. |
