Bill: Legalisation of cannabis for private use
Details
Submitted by[?]: Syndicalists
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2441
Description[?]:
Decades of attempting to remove illegal drug use from our society have failed, it is clear that cannabis is here to stay. Since the policy of criminalising drug use does not appear to have any significant positive effects anyway, and considering that alcohol and tobacco are far more dangerous and addictive substances than cannabis, we propose to legalise canabis in order to decriminalise drug use and diminish the influence of organised crime. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The recreational drug policy.
Old value:: Recreational drug use is forbidden.
Current: Recreational drug use is regulated by local governments.

Message | If this bill is accepted, we may use the results to determine wether an expansion of the legalisation to all soft drugs is adviseable or not. You would also do well to remember the great financial benefits that will follow from being able to tax cannabis. |

Message | This is true that it would be good for tax purposes, however the full legalization of cannabis is not advisable. It will lead to rampant drug abuse and a larger strain on our health care system. |

Message | That is a common misconception: the fact of the matter is that there already IS rampant drug abuse. Any teenager can easily acquire cannabis right now. The only difference after accepting this bill is that they now won't get thrown in jail over it, which doesn't seem to deter them anyway, and that the government will be able to earn a lot of extra money, even with additional funds being allocated to health care and prevention campaigns. Not to mention that this will take away a lot of the income of organised crime. In our opinion, heavy taxation and honest information being distributed among the Seleucian youth will be far more effective at stopping the drug problem than locking people up. |
