Bill: National Motto Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Revolutionary Socialist Front

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2442

Description[?]:

An act to change the national motto of Hulstria and Gao-Soto to "Salus Populi Suprema Est Lex". This is a Latin quote from Roman statesman Cicero, and translated into English it means "The welfare of the people is the ultimate law". We believe that this more accurately reflects the just and compassionate nature of the peoples of Hulstria and Gao-Soto.

MessageWe think that Viribus Unitis is a simple and noble statement on the unity of the various ethnic groups and religions that make this nation what it is. Although we may not all be the same, we can do anything and defeat any challenge when we work together.

OOC: also Romans never existed in game, the nearest equivilent are the Selucians.

MessageI like it although I sort of disagree with it. I think in some cases, liberty is more important than the welfare of the people, like with legalizing drugs.

MessageI dunno... one could argue that liberty and welfare are one and the same. Like you assume that "welfare" here means physical wellbeing, that's not necessarily the case.

MessageAgain, the GSPP and IHP have a 1/3 minority and can block this. Viribus Unitius is the prefect motto for a nation comprised of two major ethnicities like the Dual Monarchy.
