| Message | First, the NCL finds it rather odd that a bill would deal with both forestry and pharmaceutical R&D. That being said, onto the articles. The NCL objects to Article One, see as how subsidies for research encourage development of cures, not just profiteering from sicknesses. Businesses have no incentive to create products that would eliminate their market share. The NCL also objects to Article Two. The free market is not infallible. The free market will never regulate the commons in a manner that is sustainable. Without restriction, corporations would devastate our climate by rapidly snatching up a common good before a competing firm does. We admire the LARP's free market ambitions, but not their lack of reasonable approach to pragmatic and socially beneficial outcomes. |

| Message | You seem to misunderstand the first article; the government does not currently subsidise research but merely regulates prices. We also disagree that the free market is not self-regulating. The free market will recognize that they need to replant trees after cutting them down in order to preserve future profits. They will recognize that cutting too much too soon will flood the market and drop prices. Thus they have a self-interested motivation to cut sustainably. |

IC: It has been the experience of the LDP that most industry heads are far less concerned about the longterm continuation of their industry than they are the short-term profits and cushy retirement that they personally will have after they have fully exploited a market. |
