Bill: Public Safety Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Democratic Liberal Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2097

Description[?]:

This bill aims to introduce moderate levels of health and safety regulation to all areas of industry. We propose this because whilst we feel that some regulation is necessary to ensure the safety of our workers and consumers, we feel that too stringent a set of regulations will lead to a preference for lawsuits over common sense.

Prior to any decision on the nature of regulation, there will be an open consultation between representatives from both the government and major industries operating in Hobrazia. The aim of this is to ensure that any regulations introduced will be effective, without stifling Hobrazian industry or creating wasteful bureaucracy or quangos.

Any health and safety regulation laid down will be legally binding, however there will be a provision in the new laws to ensure common sense prevails in any legal proceedings arising from the new legislation. This is to ensure that we do not breed a "compensation culture" in Hobrazia, whereby people can sue coffee shop owners or fast food chains for not labelling coffee as "hot".

MessageYou beat me to this...bugger (was originally going to form pt3 of the Workers Charter).

We support this, though would recommend high levels of regulation. In order to stop lawsuits though the laws would be spelt out exactly what the employers must provide that way we gain the improvements in safety but won't gain the ridiculous lawsuits that can be brought against business.

MessageWhat exactly does" high levels of regulation" mean to an industry? I believe in government health and safety regulations, but at the same time I believe that a specific industry knows more than the government on how to handle it's safety and health regulations. I really need to see the other proposals that are available before I can give an answer on whether I support or not. We don't want to stifle industry.
