Bill: WMD Policy 2443

Details

Submitted by[?]: People's Communist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2444

Description[?]:

A bill aimed at removing the ridiculous legality of allowing first strike WMD use by our nation.

Note: This bill reluctantly accepts and does not seek to change the necessity of a nuclear deterrent, but there should be no excuse for allowing the military use of chemical or biological weapons, particularly not on a first strike basis.

MessageFor the hawks among you, we draw your attention to the fact that this bill would seek to widen our policy of nuclear deterrence to respond to a chemical or biological attack, in order to close any perceived disparity between our policies on WMD that might be taken as a sign of weakness by our enemies.

There should be no excuse for using biological or chemical weapons - their purpose is purely to maximise suffering and we should endeavour rise above such barbarism.

MessageUnfortunately, we're not living in an ideal world and we've been targeted before. Our socialist utopia is kept safe due to the fact that our military capacity is considered by our enemies.

MessageOnce again your argument completely fails to connect with the bill in question.

This bill deals with the possibility of us being targetted. It maintains our deterrent and it allows us to research chemical and biological weapons to produce vaccines and defences for our citizens. The one thing this bill stops us from doing is being the very same barbaric aggressors that that you so often warn us against.

So why exactly do you oppose it?

MessageJust to clarify, because this bill is quite confusing:

We cannot build WMDs, we cannot use them whatsoever but yet we can have M.A.D?

MessageThe PM understands the reasoning behind the PSP's argument, and as the PM has stated before - we have to trust the executive and legislature to not abuse the weapons. Al'Badara has a long history of not being the aggressor and as long as the People remain in power, there will be no need for us to randomly attack anyone.

We would like to keep it as an option viable, if the situation came and we needed it - but when not in war, we're not likely to drop chemical weapons for no reason to a random target.

MessageOur greatest strength is our militaries deterring nature. Not posessing chemical or biological weapons will not stop other nations from using them on us.

MessageIndeed not, which is the idea behind extending the policy of nuclear deterrence in its place.

Random fact: Voters have an extra appreciation for bills that actually get passed, so if you want to maximally take profit from your votes, make sure you compromise with others.
