Bill: Currency Introduction

Details

Submitted by[?]: Enlightened Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2101

Description[?]:

With the long-standing use of indeterminate currency instead of one of our own, the ESP suggests we unify our finances and create a new currency for Saridan. This currency would be (current name suggestion) the Saridanian Credit, symbol 'c'. The minor currency unit would be (suggested name) the decicredit, 'dc'. There would be 100 decicredits to a credit. The coins and notes would be as follows:

Coins: 1dc, 2dc, 5dc 10dc,, 20dc, 50dc, 1c, 2c
Notes: 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, 100c, 200c

We are of course open to other suggestions about the name, structure, etc of the official currency.

OOC: Just trying to get us an official currency instead of nobody being entirely sure what currency we are.

However we have some suggestions.

We propose the name be the Unite. A play on the words obviously of unite (unity) and unit (measurement)
Or Uni's for short. The symbol obviously would be the "U" for notes. a "u" for coins.

We propose the following as well.

Coins: 1u 5u 10u 25u (no whole "dollars" in coin form)
Notes: 1U 5U 10U 20U 50U 100U 1000U 10000U

We feel these are a little more uniform and less confusing. Of course, these are just suggestions.

MessageUnfortunately, having a 1U note would be silly... everyone would be carrying around dozens of annoying bits of paper. We feel that the Credit's system would be better.

MessageWe oppose. Do we even have to explain why? It should be fairly obvious.

MessageWe bring to the vote, and urge all to vote for Saridan being independent as opposed to tied to other countries.

Messagewhile we arent crazy with the implemented system, an autonomous currency is important.
We dont want to be in a system like the Euro

MessageThis is autonomous, as fully stated. We have our own currency if this passes, if not, we use the international dollar (a horrid, boring currency with no benefit to it).

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.
