| Recent conservative political rallies have drawn attention to a longstanding problem in Aloria: the number of people "starving in the streets." Of course, the problem has been around for awhile, because many people have been working in jobs with below subsistence wages--wages that don't ensure an Alorian has enough to eat anyway. The recent minimum wage law has ensured that every Alorian who works full time can at least subsist. But some workers in below-subsistence wage jobs have been displaced. This bill will ensure that unemployed and disabled workers at least get enough to eat, and have a roof over their heads while they recover from their disabilities, or look for new work. In effect, this bill is an attempt to "close the gap" to help make sure no Alorian lives in destitution. [OOC: There's no provision under "welfare" for food stamps or housing vouchers, which might be preferable to cash assistance in some peoples' minds. This is the minimum "welfare" the game permits for adults. /OOC]. |
