Bill: Medical Freedom.
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party for Equality
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2096
Description[?]:
People should have the freedom to decide what they do with their own bodies. Because there is no official religion of the state, religious reasons are not justification for the illegalisation of abortion - those who have religious beliefs about this are free to follow them in peace. A fetus in the early stages is scientifically no more human than individual reproductive cells and has no consciousness or pain. The lives of the mothers must be taken into consideration, and in many cases giving life to an unwanted child would be cruel to both the parents and the child. Euthanasia should be legal with consent of patient and doctor, as long as the patient has mental stability and is not coerced in any way. People have a right to end their own suffering. |

Message | Never! Anyone lobbying for the destruction of human beings through abortion and euthanasia will be dispersed for posing a potential harm to the Likatonian society under our powers in the Security in Independance Act. http://82.238.75.178:8085/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=11980 |

Message | I have no problem with the second article, as all parties involved have to give consent before any action can be taken, and we believe that persons of legal age have a right to control over thier life. As to Article 1, however, "A fetus in the early stages is scientifically no more human than individual reproductive cells and has no consciousness or pain" is a statement of belief which many would debate. At some point in the development, a group of cells becomes human and has a soul, for lack of a better term. Whatever you may call it, there is something which divides sentient beings from lower forms. As there is no way to prove where this change occurs, we feel that the most conservative approach must be taken to avoid error. Therefore, we must oppose any legalization of abortions as the possibility exists of one of the human beings involved not being able to give consent. |

Message | "there is something which divides sentient beings from lower forms." I do not for one moment deny this, but a fetus this small certainly has no consciousness or sense of self. During the first trimester it hardly has a brain. therefore it is not yet sentient. Souls are something you may or may not believe in. There has never been any proof one way or the other. If you do believe that embryos have souls, you are free not to have an abortion, but, like religious belief, it is unfair to say that everybody else should adhere to this practice regardless of their belief on the matter. |
