Bill: Loosening Abortion Controls
Details
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2096
Description[?]:
At present, third trimester abortions cannot be performed for any reason, even in times of medical emergency, and we propose to amend the law so that abortions can take place in the third trimester, in case of a medical emergency., where the life of the mother is in danger. Two doctors must attest that the situation is a medical emergency, and warrants consideration of an abortion for the abortion to be legal. |

Old value:: Abortion is allowed during the first and second trimesters.

Message | During the third trimester, babies are often born prematurely, but survive. It is hard to justify killing a baby rather than a fetus(assuming that there is a difference). TiC's preferred value for this law is the one currently in effect. |

Message | The bill has a rather unfortunate title. |
Date | 19:41:07, August 14, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | We are not suggesting that fairly developed fetuses should be killed for reasons not related to the health of the mother, a huge majority of such abortions would have already be performed. What we are proposing is allowing women to have abortions during the third trimester when their lives are in danger, something that is not possible right now. ((Equitista: I'm racking my (rather overworked) brain, I can't find anything strange about it, want to point it out?)) |

Message | If saving the mother's life requires a third-trimester abortion, then that is very regrettable. Steps should be taken to save both lives, but if an abortion is required to keep the mother alive, then the law should allow it. Supported. if there are concerns, then maybe require at least two doctors to sign off before a third-trimster abortion can be permitted? |
Date | 23:36:30, August 14, 2005 CET | From | Tuesday Is Coming | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | There is an option that permits all abortions to save the mother... |
Date | 04:41:44, August 15, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | That option bans all abortion that does not involve a medical emergency. |

Message | Description amended. Let me know if there's anything else you want in there. |
Date | 05:49:05, August 15, 2005 CET | From | Tuesday Is Coming | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | "That option bans all abortion that does not involve a medical emergency." We know. However, if that was your intent, that option is better than the one you have proposed. |
Date | 18:15:56, August 15, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | Our intent is to allow all abortion for the first two trimesters, but only abortions required in cases of medical emergency in the third trimester. |

Message | ((Noo! It's going to be bumped by the election. I have to look at the date more often.)) |
Date | 19:42:23, August 15, 2005 CET | From | Democractic Socialist Party of Lodamun | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | Abortions this late in the pregnancy are undeniably horrid, but it isn't the government's place to interfere. supported. |
Date | 06:49:57, August 16, 2005 CET | From | Adam Smith Party | To | Debating the Loosening Abortion Controls |
Message | We oppose this. By the time the third trimester comes around there has been plenty of chance to check for malformations etc. What can be done in the third trimester is an emergency cesarian section, this is not an abortion, as the baby is expected to survive. |
