Message | That level of government which is closest to the people is best able to give them what they wish from their government. If what they wish ends up being to their detriment, then they are punished for their mistake, as they should be. The state should not protect the people from the consequences of their folly, for the sting of failure can activate the drive to succeed. |

Message | But if the decision is made by the government and not the people then the government will no longer represent the people and not only will no longer have moral authority over them, but will not in fact know what the people wish of them. Weren't you just telling us how much you wanted meritocracy? I admit that elections aren't the perfect means of obtaining this but if you can think of any better way please share this incite with the rest of us. |

Message | There will still be elections and there certainly will be governments. The only difference is the exact system whether it is an independtly elected mayor with a city council, a city council with a city manager, or a worker's soviet, et al will be up to the munipalities themselves to decide. |

Message | This legislation does not cover the entirety of local government, only the appointment of mayors. Thus those doing the choosing would likely be the *elected* city council. As a matter of efficiency, it makes sense that those were elected to make local policy shall choose the executive who is to execute that policy. |

Message | Much less damage is done to a community when a mayor is servant to the city populace as a whole rather than a handful of local politicians. |

Message | I am glad to finally find something we agree on JLC. We may disagree over the role of government but we both think it is the people who should determine that government. |
