Bill: Free Media Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: freedom party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2100
Description[?]:
Public stations are, in the belief of the Freedom Party, inevitably corrupted by the government that signs the checks. While we understand this exact same model is applied in the private market. They live and die by this, where as our government funded stations have this behavior reinforced. We also apply the moral contention, that this is in no way the role of a proper government to enter into such areas. |

Message | It is obvious to us of the LPS that the FP has never heard of the BBC. We stand by the SBO and feel that a public channel of communication is very important to Saridan and it is impossible for either the SBO tv network or the SBO radio station to be corrupted due to their form and order of command. |

Message | Exactly. The SBO is a great system supported by most of the population, allowing them to be entertained, informed, and educated without there being a profit motive behind it. Anyone who thinks that national media is biased should look at the BBC, as well as other European national organisations like that. They provide better service as well as being able to experiment and try new things more readily. The SBO is respected across Terra as a reliable and trustworthy source. We also would like to point out that the following system is in place to prevent corruption (yes, we are as against propoganda as you are). 'Like the BBC, the leader will not be a single person, but a large board of governors. This should prevent anything as you describe happening. If the votes taken require 7/10 of them to vote in favour, then it would be near-impossible to have a board of governors that are to that amount so strongly biased as you suggest they could be.' |

Message | Umm.....The BBC is EXACTLY why the FP proposed this legislation. Its horrifically biased. Just because the two of you have a progressive agenda that the BBC playcates, doesnt mean its not biased. Its just biased in a form that you like. Youre exactly the same as american christians who think fox news isnt biased. Private tv by the way isnt owned by one man. Each station has a board of investors. People allow ratings to decide what they want to watch. Not what they are told watch. |

Message | Horrifically biased? It's renowned across the world as a reliable and unbiased source. And we fail to see any bias - can you quote an example? |

Message | Well, for one their retrospective on world war 2. Painting japan as a victim. Describing their invasion of near by nations simply as "expansion". Or their noted bias for the Labour party. |

Message | They seem fairly biased regarding israel as well. |

Message | Indeed the BBC which tends to bias its coverage to Labour and the LDP. only competition of ideas can ensure a fair and balanced mediascape |

Message | Odd I thought I've already posted something here... Well, what it was meant to say (if it were here) is that in Australia there is the ABC (Australian not American) which tends to criticize the government as much as it supports it. If the BBC is bias that does not mean that ours has to be bias too, the ABC (OOC:and maybe SBS though I hardly watch it) are perfect examples of non-bias government TV channels. |
Date | 03:11:23, August 19, 2005 CET | From | Enlightened Socialist Party | To | Debating the Free Media Act |
Message | The BBC does not support New Labour, in fact, it tends to criticise it heavily, and tends to be neutral towards the Liberal Democrats. The BBC never has supported the Labour Party, often making the points about the errors of their proposals and how awful they are. Point in case - criticism of how New Labour destroyed the transport system. |

Message | we will never support public funded broadcasting. |

Message | And there the FP fails to know the opinion of the people. They don't want advertising crammed down their throats, or information tailored purely to get them to buy something. National television and radio works excellently in other countries (the BBC being a shining example - probably the most respected news service in the world, arguably before Reuters). |

Message | so say you. Its odd to us that we dont know the opinion for the people, seeing as how the people have voted dominantly libertarian for 2 elections now. The times, they are a'changing, ESP. You need to recognize that. We shall bring to a vote. |

Message | And you should realize that not all government media is propaganda. This is restricting our Media not freeing it. |
