Bill: Industrial Ecology Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Plato's Republican Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2453
Description[?]:
Sekowo's history of ecological care and respect towards the environment is commendable, but there are still steps that can be taken to ensure the safety of wildlife and the health and general well-being of the population. As it stands, industrial pollution is completely unregulated by the government. This would seem to run completely contrary to our policies of wildlife preserves, clean air initiatives regarding carpools and environmentally friendly vehicles, and other such policies. It is therefore the purpose of this bill to close the gap, and begin to enforce reasonable, fair, and effective pollution regulations. In this way, pollution from major industry can be properly managed, the environment of Sekowo can be protected, and the industries themselves can still maintain a high degree of efficiency. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government regulation of pollution in industry.
Old value:: Industrial pollution is not regulated by the government.
Current: The government enforces highly restrictive industrial pollution standards.
Proposed: The government enforces moderate pollution restrictions.

Message | The DSP will support this, though we think there needs to be heavy regulation. It is unfortunate that the last 5 years industrial pollution has not been regulated at all. |

Message | It is precisely because there has been no regulation that the PRP feel it unwise to force major industry to go from no regulation to heavy regulation. There must be a period of adjustment for both the industries and the government to acclimate. After this period, which may well prove to be quite short, the situation can be re-evaluated and if it is prudent further regulations may be put into place. It may very well be Plato's Republicans that push for such reform! |
Date | 01:53:59, September 09, 2007 CET | From | Sekowan Communist Party | To | Debating the Industrial Ecology Act |
Message | The SCP supports a five year period to allow industries to get back up to speed on regulating pollution before heavy restrictions are enforced. |

Message | PRP would like to remind our esteemed colleagues that due to the recent election, a new round of voting is necessary for this bill. As there is nothing contentious about it, and it is essentially correcting a five-year oversight, we urge you to pass it into law swiftly. |
