Bill: Save the Aquatic Neckbeard Act of January 2453
Details
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2454
Description[?]:
This party is introducing legislation designed to help replenish our fish population in general, and mores specifically, the Aquatic Neckbeard. Decades of overfishing may soon drive this lovable marine dweller to extinction, the DR introduces steps it feels that are necessary to save a cousin of our national animal. To ensure proper husbanding of our aquatic resources this legislation will ban commercial fishing outright, and place fishing fleet under an agency of our government. The goal will be to allow our offshore eco-systems to recover, then allow fishing operations to resume under a closely monitored sustainable fishing scheme. |

Message | The GU supports, although we would rather see the fishing industry stay privately owned but regulated for the time being. But perhaps full state control is the best of making sure the fishing industry stays within the set quotas. |

Message | The LLP feels that whilst both articles are a step in the right direction, they are too intrusive upon commercial freedoms. Complete state control and prohibition will only cause more law breakers, by proposing more moderate regulations, the economy, businesses and private hunters are given some breathing space so they are not forced to outright illegal activities. |

Message | We agree with the LLP. Mostly. |

Message | Drastic times call for desperate measures. This party holds that there will be ecological disaster if the current state of unregulated fishing is allowed to stand. An outright ban on private hunting and fishing would greatly ease the burden of our wildlife officials in finding lawbreakers, as hunting or fishing materials in a hunting or fishing area would leave no ambiguity as to the intent of poaching. There is no need to hunt in this day and age (hunger would speak of a failure of our family feeding programs). This party is fully aware that fish are a stable of the Talmorian diet; to this end some fisherman would be employed directly by the state instead of by corporations who care little for the environment. |
