Bill: Reinstatement of Charitable Aid Bill, 2096

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Dynamist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2098

Description[?]:

This bill would constitute the Tukaralian Foreign Aid Fund, which, although only a very small contribution, is responsible for the saving of thousands of lives. Every year until its abolition under the previous government, it has given to the most needy some of the things we in Tukarali take for granted - clean water, and the most meager staples.
Into this fund, a fixed proportion of the GDP, namely 0.5%, will be paid by the government. This fund will be distributed at the end of each financial year among a list of approved charities supporting the relief of poverty, famine, drought and disease. This does not preclude additional contributions in disasters or crises.

MessageThe SDP feels it is necessary to restate: in no way does this policy put Tukaralians second. More money earned by Tukaralians end up in the hands of foreign investor-elites through 'free' market policies than are put to good use feeding the most needy.

MessageThe bill is too constraining annd allows for no exception for the posibility that we may run a deficit, and thus have to borrow more money to give away to others. Also, there is no clause which would limit said aid to friendly countries. I don't want to assist our enemies. I vote no.

Well, if you'd've been be so kind as to suggest such a policy before the bill was put to a vote, perhaps we could have found a compromise.

"Also, there is no clause which would limit said aid to friendly countries. I don't want to assist our enemies. I vote no."
Actually, if you read the bill, there is.

"among a list of approved charities supporting the relief of poverty, famine, drought and disease"
1. If the charities don't work to our approval, we don't support them. Problem solved.
2. If our enemies are that poor, they're not much of a threat.
