Bill: Recreational Drugs Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Royal Conservative Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2097
Description[?]:
Recreational drugs such as heroine, crack cocaine and opium are dangers to the health and safety of the public at large. Their implications on the health of individuals is well documented - extreme depression, addiction and mental health disorders are all horrible side effects of such drugs. Equally, the effects on society at large are negative - people may do harm to others while suffering the side effects of these drugs. Society ends up footing the bill for such drug abuses - hospitals have to pay for the treatment of addicts and the police service has to spend resources on keeping the peace in drug related incidents. We therefore propose that all recreational drugs be banned. Cannabis may be used by hospitals and may be given by prescription but this is dealt with in another proposal. |
Proposals
Article 1

Message | Indeed. Pot Andalay has become popular and known internationally. We currently export to 30 countries, though it is believed that it is smuggled into some others. |

Message | A trade surplus creates a strong international currency. Pot Andalay is one of our major exports, and therefore it is partially responsible for the strength of the LOD. |

Message | I cannot sanction the exchange of mind bending drugs for money. It is immoral and irresponsible, with frank disregard for both the health of individuals and the health of society as a whole. |

Message | Are you also willing to restrict the trade in alcohol, sugar, coffee, tea, etc. Or is it just those drugs that you personally dislike and do not use that you wish to prevent others from using. What will be next? What else do you not like? Perhaps you will ban the eating of brussels sprouts, or the chewing of gum? We oppose. It is not the place of the government to rule on what people can do to their own bodies. |

Message | Brussel sprouts do not have an inherent health risk. Alcohol, tea and coffee need to be taken in very large quantities to be harmful. Ecstasy on the other hand can kill with just a single pill. |

Message | Brussels Sprouts could easily kill with a single dose. You have not tried my grandmothers cooking! Alcohol can be taken in very low doses to kill. Ecstasy is your choice, your risk. Are you going to try to ban crossing the road because doing this once can kill you? Life is about choices and risks. We do not have the right or the duty as a government to remove risk, in fact it is unhealthy for a human to live a risk free life. We suggest you check the medical literature on our need for risk. |

Message | It is not just the harm it does to individuals but the harm it does to society as well. Hospitals have to pay to treat drug addicts and the problems they cause. The police service have to clean up after them and stop them from committing drug related crime. The courts have to prosecute them for the crimes they committ while under the influence. Local government has to repair the public property they damage while in their durg fuelled rages. There has to be a limit to when freedom for the individual becomes dangerous to society. That is why we do not legalise murder. |
