Bill: Changing the Motto Debate (2460)
Details
Submitted by[?]: 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2472
Description[?]:
With the voting for the changing of the national sport (finally) having passed recently, we feel now is the time (instead of waiting until the next legislative session) to bring this up again. The DSP has several times throughout it's existence proposed various motto changes, usually with half the parties agreeing, but coming short of enough votes to pass the proposed change, and since we have seen different parties vote for different proposals, we feel that we need to come together to decide on one that we can all vote for to replace the unpronounceable paragraph we have now. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The national motto.
Old value:: Meshilu'e gxanitshyeseffon kwe tshew velwai bhomaitonvyessh
Current: 万事、皇国のために/萬事、皇國ぬたみに (All for Sekowo)
Proposed: Scientia est Potentia.

Message | The first article of business will be to decide what language we will use. As it stands, English and Latin are two of our official languages, so it makes sense to use one of them, however since most citizens speak two or more languages, French, Greek, Japanese and Nordic languages are viable as well, since they all do have cultural influences on Sekowo. The Kli'kut language would be an interesting choice as well, though choices would be limited as we only understand about 30% of it so far. |

Message | The SCP would prefer a Tsekwon motto. |

Message | Well, so long as it's pronounceable, and is good in general, I guess that's cool. Also, if it is a Tsekwon one, can it not be a paragraph like our current one. |

Message | It's been quite awhile since this was proposed, and since we really want the motto changed, we're going to pick one and put it up to vote. |

Random fact: Don't put "the" as the first word in your party name, because when parties are referred to in news reports, their names are preceded with "the", e.g. the [Socialist Party] has lost. |
