Bill: Budget Proposal of January 2473

Details

Submitted by[?]: Catholic Workers Union

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2474

Description[?]:

The responsibilities of our government have nearly tripled over the course of the last two years. It only makes sense that our budget keep up with the pace of the return of social democracy.

Although some parties may cry out against deficit spending, we remind them that the investment in our economy made through new spending on Trade and Industry, for example, will expand our economy and our future tax base (future tax hikes are expected as well).

MessageDoes expanding the foreign affairs budget that much make any sense? Where will all that money go? Limo rides for pages?

MessageAlso, this will overspend tax revenues, even with the enormous tax hike, by the revenue collected again. Cut the flippant increases I made to Education and Culture if you want to fund these things.

MessageIncreases to education and culture are investments. Why would we cut them? This is sound fiscal policy: deficit spending works. It's Keynesian.

About the foreign policy increases: we currently offer moderate amounts of aid to foreign nations, it only makes sense that we have the money to pay for those programs. Part of this budget is just catching up to speed with our commitments.

MessageKeynesian economics assumes a fixed price level and employment.

Bad assumptions to make. We see no need for this increases, and these seem to be arbitrary numbers. Too much leeway for abuse.

Against.
