Bill: A matter of books
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2476
Description[?]:
Several companies expressed interests in establishing charter-schools. While out current laws do not allow for them to do so, since they are profit oriented enterprises, we believe that a slight alteration in the legislation could permit them to bring more knowledge to the table while maintaining our stance on charter schools. This bill is open for debate, thus the final resolution proposed for vote will take into account proposed opinions. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Charter school policy (free, privately run, publicly funded schools).
Old value:: Only non-profit organizations may establish charter schools.
Current: Charter schools are not allowed.
Proposed: Charter schools must be non-profit and have a specific focus.

Message | It does nothing to help profit making organizations. It's odd that you mentioned them. However, it's a good bill and it has our support. Tipper Barkley, Minister of Education and Culture |

Message | This seems like another thing that is best left to local governments. We shouldn't micromanage things like charter schools; if one region does it best one way while another region prefers a different method, that allows maximum flexibility. Senator Bogart Camazotz |
Date | 20:16:10, October 22, 2007 CET | From | Parti de Garde Royales | To | Debating the A matter of books |
Message | We can and will support this, but we too rather saw it left up to local governments |
