Message | How will this free public education system be funded? Will school buildings be donated by wealthy landlords and the teachers work for free, using books from charity shops? |

Message | The article says "free", not funded by general taxation. Hopefully I don't need to explain the difference? |

Message | I think it is meant by free that there are no tuition fees to be paid. Please correct me if i am wrong. |

Message | But tuition fees are being paid, every time you get paid, earn interest, or buy something: whether you have kids of school age or not. |

Message | What i meant is that there are two kinds of schools. One is Private, students pay their tuitions, not funded by the government. The other kind is the public schools. Students entering these schools do not pay tuitions, and the government subsidizes these schools (teachers wages, other expenses...). I hope i got your point. |

Message | Hmm, I presume those parents paying tuition fees to independent schools would be entitled to a partial tax refund, so that they are not paying tuition fees to the state schools they are not using as well? Otherwise they would be paying twice. |

Message | This may be logic. We can give a refund or a cut of taxes in other fields (income tax) for parents sending their children to private schools. Or we can simply charge a very small amout of money as a symbolic tuition fee to parents sending their children to public schools. These symbolic fees, added togeter plus all the donations to public schools the government gets, may be sufficient to run these schools. |

Message | I've just re-read the article and have realised it doesn't say anywhere that the free schools are funded by the government. It just says 'There is a free public education system alongside private schools': this is obviously talking about church schools. |
