Bill: Adulthood
Details
Submitted by[?]: Parti de Garde Royales
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2484
Description[?]:
I propose we raise the age for when one becomes an adult, with all rights and responsibilities, from 17 to 18. We just raised mandatory education to the age of 19, and if parties find our citizens to be under-educated at the age of 17, how can we possibly expect them to make sound decisions at that age, regarding personal and public matters. Voters need to be of an age, where they can see through and comprehend the complex dealings of politicians, so not to be duped. And I fear 17 is a bit low. This is also done in regards to the criminal justice system. 17 is too young to be tried as an adult. George Wyndhaven - Prime Minister of Lourenne |

Message | It's only a year's difference, is this bill necessary? |

Message | One year makes a great difference, especially when it comes to those late teens. 17 seems a bit young - 19 seems a bit old. 18 seems perfect. We should not dismiss a bill like this for making what seems an insignificant change, Should we only consider it if the age was raised or lowered with 3 years. Let's do the right thing, instead of the easy. George Wyndhaven - Prime Minister |

Message | I think that eighteen seventeen is old enough to be tried as an adult. I think the age of adulthood should be increased to 18, but I believe that children of at least fifteen should be tried as adults, even if they have not yet reached adulthood. |

Message | In regards to the above comment, you can't treat a person differently in the matter of rights and responsibility. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
