Bill: Adulthood

Details

Submitted by[?]: Parti de Garde Royales

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2484

Description[?]:

I propose we raise the age for when one becomes an adult, with all rights and responsibilities, from 17 to 18.

We just raised mandatory education to the age of 19, and if parties find our citizens to be under-educated at the age of 17, how can we possibly expect them to make sound decisions at that age, regarding personal and public matters.

Voters need to be of an age, where they can see through and comprehend the complex dealings of politicians, so not to be duped. And I fear 17 is a bit low.

This is also done in regards to the criminal justice system. 17 is too young to be tried as an adult.

George Wyndhaven - Prime Minister of Lourenne

MessageOne year makes a great difference, especially when it comes to those late teens.
17 seems a bit young - 19 seems a bit old. 18 seems perfect.

We should not dismiss a bill like this for making what seems an insignificant change, Should we only consider it if the age was raised or lowered with 3 years.

Let's do the right thing, instead of the easy.

MessageI think that eighteen seventeen is old enough to be tried as an adult. I think the age of adulthood should be increased to 18, but I believe that children of at least fifteen should be tried as adults, even if they have not yet reached adulthood.

MessageIn regards to the above comment, you can't treat a person differently in the matter of rights and responsibility.

Random quote: "The moral justification of capitalism does not lie in the altruist claim that it represents the best way to achieve 'the common good.' It is true that capitalism does, if that catch-phrase has any meaning, but this is merely a secondary consequence. The moral justification for capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system consonant with man's rational nature, that it protects man's survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is justice." - Ayn Rand
